Today, the Open Market Trading Desk (the Desk) at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York published its annual report, Open Market Operations during 2019. This report includes operations through the end of calendar year 2019 and does not reflect any measures taken by the Federal Reserve in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
This report was prepared by the Markets Group and presented to the Federal Open Market Committee. It contains a summary of open market operations conducted by the Desk for the System Open Market Account (SOMA) as well as Federal Reserve balance sheet developments in 2019. The report also presents New York Fed staff projections of SOMA domestic securities holdings and associated net income. These projections are based on the balance sheet outlook at the end of 2019, to illustrate how the balance would evolve over time in an ample reserves regime.
The report on Open Market Operations during 2019, along with underlying data presented in the charts, is located on the New York Fed’s website. Historical reports and projections are also available.
