Federal Reserve Bank of New York President John C. Williams will make stops throughout New Jersey on November 1 to meet with leaders in community development, higher education, business, and government.
On the morning of Friday, November 1, President Williams will participate in a roundtable discussion in Asbury Park to learn about community and economic development efforts in the revitalized seaside community. He will be joined by local government officials, representatives from several nonprofit institutions, and leadership from real estate firms.
The next stop will be a meeting in Trenton with officials from the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, the New Jersey Office of the Secretary of Higher Education, the New Jersey Department of Labor, and Rutgers University’s John J. Heldrich Center for Workforce Development. The discussion will focus on the state’s efforts to align higher education-related policies with workforce and economic development initiatives.
President Williams will then head to Newark for a roundtable discussion with representatives from the City of Newark and the Newark Alliance including a network of public and private institutions focused on advancing equitable and inclusive economic development strategies in the Greater Newark area. This will be followed by a meeting with leaders of New Jersey Community Capital at the Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, where President Williams will hear how the healthcare and housing sectors are collaborating to bridge the gap between health outcomes and housing policy.
The trip will conclude with a moderated discussion hosted by the Rutgers Business School – Newark, where President Williams will share insights on the economy and answer questions from local business, nonprofit, and higher education stakeholders. Dr. Ken Lyons, a professor at Rutgers Business School and director of the institution’s Public Private Community Partnership Program, will moderate the event.
This trip serves to inform President Williams on regional issues and is part of the New York Fed’s ongoing efforts to assess economic conditions across the Federal Reserve’s Second District.
