On September 7-8, Federal Reserve Bank of New York President John C. Williams will hold a series of engagements with leaders in business, government, education, and community development as part of a virtual visit to New York State’s North Country region.
On Tuesday, September 7, President Williams will speak with legislators from counties including Clinton, Essex, Franklin, and Jefferson about current economic conditions and pandemic recovery efforts in the North Country region. Later that day he will participate in a virtual roundtable discussion organized in coordination with the North Country Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Watertown-North Country Chamber of Commerce, and the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism, where he will speak with local business and nonprofit leaders about how they are faring during the pandemic and the challenges they face looking ahead.
To conclude the day, President Williams will meet with representatives of economic development groups and higher education to discuss efforts to expand broadband and internet access across the region.
On Wednesday, September 8, President Williams will speak about the economic outlook and monetary policy as part of an event hosted by St. Lawrence University. His remarks will be followed by a moderated discussion on economic trends and the outlook for the North Country in light of his conversations with stakeholders in the region.
For the final engagement of the virtual regional visit, President Williams will meet with local leaders in healthcare, higher education, housing advocacy, and economic and workforce development to discuss the challenges facing New York’s rural areas and how communities are addressing the pandemic.
These meetings serve to inform President Williams on regional issues and are part of the New York Fed’s ongoing efforts to assess economic conditions across the Federal Reserve's Second District.
