New York Fed and Columbia SIPA to Co-Host Workshop on Monetary Policy Implementation and Digital Innovation

May 25, 2022

NEW YORK—On June 1-2, 2022, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) will jointly host “Monetary Policy Implementation and Digital Innovation,” a two-day conference focused on how central banks can effectively implement monetary policy in an environment of rapid innovation in money and payments.

The workshop will bring together international experts in monetary policy design and implementation—academics, industry experts, and current and former central bankers—to discuss how innovations in digital currency and payments could influence the money market ecosystem and interact with monetary policy frameworks, and how digital currencies could be used in cross-border payments in the future and the impact of digital innovation on the demand for dollar assets.

New York Fed President John C. Williams will deliver opening remarks on Wednesday, June 1, and System Open Market Account Manager Lorie K. Logan will offer concluding remarks on Thursday, June 2.

This event is open to press, though space may be limited. Chatham House Rule will be in effect for all sessions apart from the opening remarks on June 1 and the closing remarks on June 2; media may report on comments made during the event, but may not attribute remarks to individuals or organizations. Reporters who wish to attend must register by contacting Brian Manning at the New York Fed: brian.manning@ny.frb.org.

Note that conference participation is by invitation only. For more information, see the event page.
