On October 6-7, Federal Reserve Bank of New York President John C. Williams will travel to Buffalo to meet in-person with leaders in government, business, education, and community development.
On Thursday, October 6, President Williams will meet with Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz to hear about his economic plan and key initiatives underway in the region. He will then head to a site visit at the Peace Bridge–the second most heavily used border crossing between the United States and Canada–to learn how cross-border traffic has evolved since the pandemic as well as the bridge’s important impact on both the supply chain and regional economy.
Later, President Williams will visit the Buffalo Tech Hub in downtown Buffalo to meet with start-up and entrepreneurship sector leaders. There, he will learn about the Tech Hub, which is an entrepreneurship space designed to create a pipeline of technology workers and support the local start-up ecosystem. President Williams will then head to Buffalo’s East Side for a neighborhood tour.
President Williams will conclude the day at the Northland Workforce Training Center–a public-private partnership focused on growing and enhancing the local labor pool–which he visited when it first opened four years ago. He will meet with stakeholders of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation to hear about how affordable housing developers are working with local stakeholders to raise capital and increase the affordable housing supply.
On Friday, October 7, President Williams will travel to the Buffalo Niagara Partnership to meet with members of Employ Buffalo Niagara and the Greater Buffalo Racial Equity Roundtable. The breakfast meeting there will focus on updates about two important regional initiatives aimed at ensuring economic inclusion and growth in the region.
He will then sit down with Dr. Ted Schmidt, Economics and Finance Professor at SUNY Buffalo State, for a fireside chat and question-and-answer session on the regional and national economy, as well as monetary policy, at an event hosted by SUNY Buffalo State at the Burchfield Penney Art Center.
