NEW YORK – The Federal Reserve Bank of New York today announced the appointment of Anthony E. Shorris, John L. Weinberg/Goldman Sachs Visiting Professor at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University and Senior Advisor at McKinsey & Co., to its Upstate New York and Regional Advisory Board (UNYRAB). The appointment is being announced ahead of UNYRAB’s second meeting of 2019, scheduled for June 25, 2019 at the New York Fed.
UNYRAB is composed of chief executive officers, presidents of national- and international-oriented large companies, along with civic and academic leaders based in upstate New York and other parts of the second district. It meets three times per year with New York Fed President John C. Williams and staff to discuss the economy and issues affecting New York’s business environment. These meetings contribute to the New York Fed’s understanding of the regional economy and help inform policymaking. In particular, Mr. Shorris’ appointment will provide UNYRAB with a perspective on regional government, health care delivery and insurance, transportation and infrastructure, education, and municipal finance in New York.
Mr. Shorris served four years as the First Deputy Mayor for the City of New York prior to his work at Princeton and McKinsey. Over his career, he has held a number of senior positions in New York City and State governments including Executive Director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, New York City Commissioner of Finance, Deputy Chancellor for Operations and Policy at the New York City Board of Education, and Deputy Director of the New York City Office of Management and Budget. In healthcare, he served as the Chief of Staff, Vice Dean and Senior Vice President at NYU Langone Medical Center and as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Healthfirst, Inc. In academia, Mr. Shorris served as the Director of the Rudin Center for Transportation at New York University and as Director of the Policy Research Institute on the Region at Princeton University. Mr. Shorris currently sits on the boards of the Regional Plan Association, NYC Independent Budget Office, and Columbia University World Projects.
The appointment of Mr. Shorris is effective immediately and he will serve a three-year term. For more information on the board, including a full list of members, visit: Upstate New York and Regional Advisory Board.
