NEW YORK – The Federal Reserve Bank of New York today announced that Kausar Hamdani, vice president, has been named Community Affairs Officer and head of the Community Affairs Department, effective December 1, 2007. Ms. Hamdani succeeds Ms. Elizabeth Ann Rodriguez who is retiring from the Bank.
The Community Affairs Department gathers grass-roots intelligence and analyzes emerging issues affecting low- to moderate-income individuals and communities in the Second Reserve District. Additionally, the department works with community development organizations, local government and CRA officers and convenes stakeholders to provide information and technical assistance related to community and economic development.
Since September 2004, Ms. Hamdani has been Manager of the Buffalo Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, and will continue in that capacity for the interim. She is active in community concerns including serving on the boards of the United Way of Buffalo & Erie County and the National Federation for Just Communities of Western New York.
Ms. Hamdani joined the Bank in 1982 as an economist in the monetary research department and has served in several areas, including the Bank Supervision Group. Prior to that, she taught economics at Columbia University and New York University.
Ms. Hamdani holds a Ph.D, M.Phil., and M.A. degrees from Columbia University and her B.A. degree from Western College for Women in Oxford, Ohio.
