On Thursday, September 5, 2024, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York hosted a virtual event exploring findings from two papers on flood risk to low-and-moderate income households in New York City. The papers, released earlier this year by the Community Development team, found that approximately one in ten low- to moderate-income people, immigrants, and racial and ethnic minorities in New York City live in a flood-prone census tract. The event detailed which New York City neighborhoods are most exposed to flood risk. Speakers also discussed the financial impact of flooding on residents, including property loss and damage, lost labor hours, and health costs.
This event was of interest to researchers, nonprofits, community bankers, policymakers, and small business owners.
