New York Fed President John Williams to Visit New York’s Southern Tier on October 9-10

NEW YORK—Federal Reserve Bank of New York President John C. Williams will visit New York State’s Southern Tier region on October 9 and 10 to meet with leaders in government, business, education, and community development.

On Wednesday, October 9, President Williams will visit Watkins Glen International, a NASCAR racetrack in Schuyler County, to learn about the economic impact of the facility and hear from local leaders about development initiatives in the region.

He will then travel to Steuben County, where he will participate in a roundtable discussion with representatives of the area’s agricultural industry. Next, he will meet with leaders from economic and industrial development groups from Steuben County to hear about economic conditions in the region.

From there, President Williams will travel to Chemung County, where he will meet with community development leaders to discuss issues such as childcare, housing, and workforce development. He also will visit the facilities of railcar maker CAF USA in Elmira to learn about its business operations and hear from county economic development officials. Following that, he will join a roundtable discussion with leaders of manufacturing firms from the region to hear about business conditions and their outlook.

The final stop on the first day will be the city of Corning, where President Williams will meet with leaders from Corning Inc., a materials science company that makes products for industrial applications, to learn about its operations and the business climate in the area.

On Thursday, October 10, President Williams will travel to Binghamton, in Broome County, where he will visit the facilities of the Association for Vision Rehabilitation and Employment, a nonprofit organization that aims to create opportunities for people who are blind or visually impaired. Then, at a meeting organized by the Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce, he will hear from local business leaders about current and prospective business and economic conditions.

From there, he will travel to Binghamton University, where he will deliver remarks and participate in a moderated discussion covering the economic outlook and monetary policy. While on campus, he will meet with Binghamton University’s leadership to hear about the school's role in the local economy and new initiatives. To conclude the regional visit, he will meet with leaders from the New Energy New York (NENY) Battery Tech Hub at Binghamton to learn about the growing battery manufacturing cluster in the Southern Tier.

These meetings serve to inform President Williams on regional issues and are part of the New York Fed’s ongoing efforts to assess economic conditions across the Federal Reserve’s Second District.
