NEW YORK FED PUBLISHES BOOKLET ON FEDERAL BUDGET

NEW YORK - The Federal Reserve Bank of New York today announced the publication of a new 16-page booklet titled, "Understanding the Federal Budget."

The booklet provides an overview of basic economic concepts related to the budget of the federal government and is intended for the general public, especially students in high school and introductory college-level economics courses. It discusses the sources of the government’s revenues, the nature of the government’s major expenditure items, and issues related to government debt and surplus or deficit.

The booklet suggests questions for classroom discussion and provides references to additional budget-related information and activities on the Internet.

Up to 35 copies of the booklet are available free of charge. Additional copies are one dollar each, with exceptions for classroom use. To order, write to the Public Information Department, Federal Reserve Bank of New York, 33 Liberty Street, New York, New York 10045, or call 212-720-6134.
