It's All About Economics: A Professional Development Workshop for Educators at All Levels
August 24, 2006

Educators long have known that bringing an economic and financial perspective to their history, government and other social studies classes greatly enriches lessons and enhances student learning. However, most educators have little, if any, formal training in economics and many simply shy away from economic perspectives when conducting their lessons. Now there's an easy way to begin obtaining that training

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York is pleased to host a new two-day workshop on basic concepts and practices in economics. "It's All About Economics" will guide educators toward improved understanding of fundamental economic laws, concepts and reasoning that will bring an "ah-ha" to students learning about contemporary and historical social studies matters. This workshop also will help educators to improve their skills in analyzing and presenting data, and in using data to shed light on issues and developments addressed throughout the social studies curricula.

Over two full days, educators will interact with prominent economists, outstanding economic educators and one another in making economic concepts come alive. Participants will work with actual data, view dynamic lessons that apply economic reasoning and receive materials free of charge.

Participants are eligible for New York City, New York State and New Jersey staff development credits

Audience
Educators from schools in the Second Federal Reserve District (New York State, the northern half of New Jersey, Fairfield County, CT, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
