NEW YORK– On Wednesday, April 7, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, in association with The International Society for Urban Health and NYU School of Global Public Health, is sponsoring an event on the social determinants of health, with a focus on health equity issues.
The COVID-19 crisis has revealed racial and economic disparities in baseline health, access to quality healthcare, and health outcomes in the U.S. and internationally. For example, while Black Americans represent only about 13% of the population in the states reporting racial/ethnic information of people who have died of COVID-19, they account for about 34% of total COVID-19 deaths in those states.
During this event, a panel moderated by Dr. Jo Ivey Boufford, Clinical Professor at NYU School of Global Public Health, will discuss the social determinants of health and what actions governments, healthcare institutions, and the financial sector can take to create change.
The event is open to the media and the public. All remarks will be on the record and the event will be recorded.
