On February 17 -18, Federal Reserve Bank of New York President John C. Williams will hold a series of engagements with leaders in government, business, education, and community development as part of a virtual visit to the northern New Jersey region.
On Thursday, February 17, President Williams will participate in a roundtable discussion with members of the Newark Anchor Collaborative, where he will hear from local business and nonprofit leaders about how they are faring amidst the pandemic recovery and the challenges they face. Following that discussion, President Williams will meet virtually with New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy to discuss current economic conditions and the progress of the pandemic recovery across the state.
Later in the day, President Williams will meet with leaders from local health and housing organizations to hear how the healthcare and housing sectors are collaborating to bridge the gap between health outcomes and housing policy. To conclude the day, President Williams will take part in a roundtable discussion with business leaders from northwestern New Jersey to discuss local economic development and how firms are navigating challenges entering year three of the pandemic.
On Friday, February 18, President Williams will meet with representatives from the Port Newark-Elizabeth Marine Terminal to discuss shipping and logistics conditions, the state of supply chains, and how global supply chain disruptions are impacting the region.
For the final engagement of the virtual regional visit, President Williams will speak about the economic outlook and monetary policy as part of an event hosted by the Guarini Institute at New Jersey City University. His remarks will be followed by a moderated discussion on economic trends and the outlook for the northern New Jersey economy, in light of his conversations with stakeholders in the region.
These meetings serve to inform President Williams on regional issues and are part of the New York Fed’s ongoing efforts to assess economic conditions across the Federal Reserve's Second District.
