On Thursday, January 18, 2024, at 11:00 AM, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York will release “The State of Low-Income America: Credit Access & Housing,” the third in a periodic series of reports that examines low-income households’ access to credit and ability to repay loans.
The report examines debt holdings across income groups, focusing on auto loans, credit card debt, mortgages, and student loans. It also includes a section on housing that details rental costs relative to income across the New York City metropolitan area.
The report is based on the New York Fed’s Consumer Credit Panel data through Q3 2023 and information on neighborhood income from the 2016 Census Bureau American Community Survey.
