NEW YORK — Starting on Monday, June 2, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York will begin publishing the Multivariate Core Trend (MCT) model at or shortly after 10:00 AM ET on the first business day of the month following the release of personal consumption expenditures (PCE) price index data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis.
The MCT model estimates a dynamic factor model on monthly data for the major sectors of the PCE price index to assess the extent and broadness of inflation persistence. The results—known as MCT Inflation—give a measure of trend inflation and help to understand whether inflation dynamics are dominated by a common trend across sectors or are sector-specific.
